The Plan of Salvation

What we call plan of salvation explains how God offers every human being a way to be forgiven of their sins, reconciled to Him, and receive eternal life. Here are the 5 main steps with simple explanations and Bible verses.

1. The Problem

-> Humanity is separated from God because of Sin.

Explanation:
Every person, even those who try to do good, makes mistakes in thoughts, words, or actions. According to the Bible, this universal reality is called Sin. Sin cuts us off from God, who is perfectly holy.

Bible Verses:

  • “For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.” Romans 3:23
  • “But your iniquities have separated you from your God.” Isaiah 59:2
  • “For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23a

2. God’s Solution

-> He loves humanity and sent Jesus to save us.

Explanation:
Even though we are guilty, God loves us and does not want us to remain separated from Him. So He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself the penalty for our sins. Through His death on the cross and resurrection, He paid the price for our forgiveness.

Bible Verses:

  • “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
  • “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
  • “For it is by Grace you have been saved, through Faith…” Ephesians 2:8-9

3. The Work of the Holy Spirit

-> Convicting, Regenerating, and Indwelling the Believer.

Explanation:
The Holy Spirit works in each heart to convict of sin, draw people to Christ, and grant new spiritual birth to those who believe. He then lives in the believer to guide, transform, and empower them to live according to God’s will.

Bible Verses:

  • “When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.” John 16:8
  • “No one can enter the Kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” John 3:5
  • “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit…?” 1 Corinthians 6:19

4. The Required Response

-> Acknowledge your sin, repent, and believe in Jesus.

Explanation:
God calls every person to acknowledge their need for forgiveness (repent) and to believe that Jesus Christ died and rose again for them. Faith is a personal and free act of trust in God, made possible by the work of the Holy Spirit.

Bible Verses:

  • “God… now commands all people everywhere to repent.” Acts 17:30
  • “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.” Acts 3:19
  • “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

5. The Result

-> Forgiveness, peace with God, eternal life, and the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Explanation:
Those who believe receive complete forgiveness of their sins, peace with God, and eternal life. The Holy Spirit dwells in them as the seal of their salvation and helps them live a new life according to God. It is a gift (Grace), not a reward for good deeds.

Bible Verses:

  • “In Him we have Redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” Ephesians 1:7
  • “…the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23b
  • “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
  • “You were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit.” Ephesians 1:13-14
