Imputation

Home / Index / Imputation
  • Definition: Imputation is the act by which the righteousness of Christ is attributed to the believer, while the believer’s sins are imputed to Christ. This means that God considers the believer as righteous because of Christ’s work.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21: « God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. »
  • Romans 4:5: « However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness. »
  • Explanation: Imputation is a key concept in understanding justification by faith. Through imputation, believers are seen as righteous before God, not because of their own deeds but because of Christ’s perfect obedience and sacrifice.
