Sanctification

Home / Index / Sanctification
  • Definition: Sanctification is the progressive process by which a believer is transformed to become more like Christ. It is an ongoing work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian.
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3: « It is God’s will that you should be sanctified. »
  • 2 Corinthians 3:18: « And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. »
  • Explanation: Sanctification is seen as a response to justification. While justification is a one-time act, sanctification is a continuous process that lasts throughout the believer’s life. The Christian is called to cooperate with the Holy Spirit to grow in holiness.
